Hi, I’m Carla — a parent, a partner, a writer, and someone trying to make sense of how to live well in an uncertain world. I’m not off-grid. I don’t own a bunker. But I do believe that being prepared — emotionally, practically, and locally — is one of the most caring things we can do for ourselves and our communities.
I’ve spent years digging into how people adapt: to change, to climate, to the everyday curveballs that life throws our way. I live in Maine with my family, and like many of you, I’m figuring it out as I go — what it means to build resilience without burning out.
This site is my way of sharing what I learn, try, fail at, and figure out — and of connecting with others who want to do the same.
why am I doing this?
Most prepper sites feel like they’re shouting. A lot of homesteading content feels like it’s not meant for people like me — or like you. This site is different.
I started this project to offer a calmer, more inclusive, and more practical approach to climate preparedness and homesteading. No fear-mongering. No “go it alone” mindset. No assumptions about who does the cooking or who owns the tools.
I believe in:
- Care over control
- Small steps that matter
- Learning as we go
- Community over isolation
Climate change is real, and so is our capacity to respond. You don’t need to do everything. But you can do something — and that’s what we’re here for.
Welcome to the next step.
